Ok. I added the sugar syrup this morning. One more day? My kitchen counter looks like a lab. Glass bottles lined up and I used a big vase to hold the brew. It already smells better than the last time I tried this.

I tried to make this a couple of years ago from a recipe on the food network and ended up with something that tasted more like lemon pledge than lemoncello. I think it had lemon juice not just the peels and the sugar syrup step wasn't the same either. So, ok. I'll give it another try but I'm going to post here after I do so I hope this is better!

Fab. Simply fab. Been looking for something I can give as gifts this holiday season. How long do you think it will store if I put in airtight bottles?

I think you could make a thicker syrup version if this to pour over ice cream or maybe a cake. It's similar to a recipe for lemon syrup that we used to make.

Really enjoying your site.

Hi Liz, welcome to clutteredpantry.com!

Yes, lemons often have beeswax on them. Produce shippers use it as a preservative. But, you know, it isn't a food. What you want are clean, fresh, oily bright yellow lemons, sans the beeswax if you can find them. (if not, hot water scrub them before you start.)

happy drinking!

Perfect timing. I was just at the store and saw a bottle for $40! It also had a ton of ingredients that sounded more like a recipe for paint (fd&c yellow etc). The beeswax note on your ingredient list? Do lemons often have that? Why?
