Visas-a-go-go
September 5, 2008 # 7:48 pm # Family # No CommentGetting ready for our return to Siberia includes everything from the mundane; purchasing plane tickets flexible enough to deal with the uncertainty of the potential waiving of the 10day wait by the court, choosing a baby carrier that will allow each of us to carry a 20lb child and luggage through a really crowded airport- to the sublime; getting deliveries of teeny tiny dresses and stretchy tights, seeing the nursery and playroom construction completed, getting to use the girls new last names as we register them for appointments and frequent flyer programs (hey, in this house we start young with the taking advantage of every discount the airlines offer.)
There is also a check list of documents and process that we must knock off one at a time, the one item that we were slightly concerned about was our new Russian Visas. With the political messyness of the US govt poking it’s nose into Russia’s dealings in Georgia, we were wondering if things might not go as smoothly as for our first trip.
Fear not! In record time (seriously it took less than 48 hours) the staff at the consulate in Washington got invitation letters from Moscow and our visa applications and then rush shipped our passports back to us with shiny new visas covering us for thirty days in country starting on the 29th.
So, now we can go back to the truly important things, like whether a “hello kitty” toddler size back pack is big enough to hold the amount of toys and snacks a 3 year old needs for an 11hour flight.
The next 24 days of waiting need to fly by, we miss the girls so much!
