A need for updating fairy tales and math lessons

So, the final touches are being put in place for the playroom and nursery. The light fixtures came in today and are now illuminating the space perfectly, so no more action required from the men made of dirt.  I spent the afternoon placing decals on the walls to create little fun scenes for the girls.

The first one, a set of pieces that can be made into a castle included prince charming on his horse and the princess in a tower waiting to be saved. Not exactly a modern tale for our daughters…but the decals are just so cute. So what’s a modern mom to do? Spin…spin…spin.. We’ll have to work on the re-write of the story itself, but clearly the princesses are hanging out the windows of THEIR castle watching down as the princes ride their horses.

The second set of decals creates a measuring chart/tree with adorable birds, and lady bugs and flowers growing along the trunk. It took more than an hour to place all the tiny pieces on the wall in a way that worked with the space and made us happy. It looked great, and then I realized that the numbers aren’t inches – which means that measuring up the wall to the 20 inch mark and starting was off by a TON… So, a bit of math and some really careful peeling and replacing back down at the 20 cm mark and we are good to go. And now, when we measure the girls as they grow like happy little sunflowers we can also do a math lesson. Bonus!

13 days left to primp/prep/plan/pack/pace and then we’re off to Russia…..
