The mamas and the papas, day 2
August 12, 2008 # 1:31 am # Adoption & Parenting # No CommentYet another day of joy—the first of countless millions I’m sure. Up early in eager anticipation. Coffee’d up and then it was off for our morning 2 hour session with the kids. Our older daughter bounded into the dayroom with the world’s largest hair ribbons—I think the conventional wisdom is more ribbons equals more beauty. But they came right over to us, knowing precisely who was whose mama and papa. Sandy and Sean’s older son, dubbed The Mayor because of his mad skills at working the room and negotiating toy swaps and settlements, was easing his way around the room, being the über-cutie, shrugging and hugging and giggling at daddys bubble blowing. Our girls were enjoying the crayons much, and our older daughter has answered our unspoken question, “who will inherit the family business?”—one need only watch how she already totally understands how to use the iPhone for taking pictures. She likes taking pictures of her little sister, complete with giving her direction.
Anyway, we all got lots of video and still pictures as the kids played, then their pediatrician came in at the end of the 2 hours and we had the chance to ask her questions. We didn’t really get much more than the info in their pretty-danged-complete current medical report—which was fine. Then off they went to lunch and nap, and off we went with Katia and Eugene for lunch at a nearby Japanese place. Katia was full of fabulous info for us about the process going forward, then we hit the market or more food, and a souvenirs store for some cool Chita stuff to share with the girls when they get older.
The afternoon with the kids was spent outdoors in the play area; the boys in their ballcaps, our younger daughter in her little bucket hat, and our older daughter in her babushka type thing. We were amused at the headgear for only about 2 seconds, because I gotta say—that is some seriously bright, hot Siberian sunshine. We played in sandboxes, we played on seesaws, we danced around ants and looked in vain for shade, when lots of other kids came out for their outdoor time we played pretty nicely until they got too close–then our older daughter basically said “my mama and papa–buzz off”. Shortly before it was time to go in she shooed away a little boy, who then proceeded to wander over to The Mayor and attempted to shank him with a pen (yes, he tried to shank him in the yard). 5 o’clock came too fast and we brought the kids back in to their little playroom—-which had an aquarium that they loooooved, then it was time for peeska and for mamas and papas to leave their new and amazing darlings until tomorrow.
