Made it to Moscow
August 9, 2008 # 4:54 pm # Adoption & Parenting # One CommentWhat better way to start off this jouney than for our driver to O’Hare to be from Bulgaria, and a student of Russian?! We practiced our newly learned phrases and even got a taste of the two footed driving we expect in Country (accelerate…brake….accelerate…BRAKE…)
The flight to Moscow was smooth and just over 9 hours long (got to love those tailwinds)
We lamed out and took upgrades to biz class, but it was worth it since after weeks of getting up early and working late Mark got the first long sleep he’s had in a long while (perhaps we should take more night flights.)
No trouble with customs and we were quckly spotted by our new friends from Boston who are traveling to meet their boys.
I’m a bit disapponted to report that the presumed clandestined meeting in a back alley to pay the “program fee” turned out to be a sunny stop next to the Moscow river with Olga the accountant who took care of our plane tickets from Moscow to Chita , as well as our fee for the apartment there.
We’re in the hotel waiting for our passports to be released. And then we’re off to explore the city a bit.
Our flights to Siberia aren’t until 9 pm on Sunday.
We’ll try to post some pics of the city soon
Best wishes and thanks for all of your calls and kind notes.

Boy, those pictures of Moscow sure bring back memories for us. We can remember those sights outside the hotel like it was yesterday.
