Then we get shots…

This past weekend we had our home study with the social worker who will be filling out the mountain of paperwork that gets added to our dossier for the Russian courts.
We also submitted our completed applications and associated documents for the adoption agency and sent off the forms required by the department of Homeland Security that have to be submitted before they will set our appointments to be fingerprinted. The fingerprints are required for our FBI background checks, which will result in the all important document cabled to the US Embassy in Russia stating that we are eligible to adopt children and that they will be allowed to become United States Citizens.
We went this morning to have our fingerprints taken to submit to the state of Illinois and to the FBI, this set of background checks is for the Home Study and not for the Homeland Security process. It’s mind boggling, but there are two distinct sets of agencies with completely different, yet slightly overlapping, documentation requirements. It took us a little while to figure it all out, but now that we get that there are two different sets of rules, we are making good progress
But, I started this entry with the word shots…part of the home study requirements is a form that our physicians had to fill out stating that we are healthy and physically able to take care of young children. Since we will be traveling to Russia, and in close contact with lots of small children, we are following the CDC guidelines and spent the morning being pin cushins. Hepatitis A and B (which both require follow up shots at 1 month, 3 months and 6 months) Diptheria, Tetnus, TB tests, Measles, Mumps, Chicken Pox and Rubella….equals sore arms and slightly woosy Mark and Bobbi. We go back to have the TB tests read by the nurses on Thursday, and then when we get back from our upcoming production trip in the Middle East and Europe we will be due for the next Hepatitis shots
It’s a relief to get that part of things over with. The next round of paper work and milestones are more complicated with regard to certifications and getting Hague Convention approved seals on everything to verify that they are true and correct documents. But in the end it’s just paperwork, and we’re feeling pretty confident that our experience coordinating large productions, and our happy dispositions, and continued excitement will get us through the early stages without any more pain than the shots themselves.
our best to you all!
